I would like to thank everyone who has help with the medical expenses and care
for Hope so far !
We are in constant need of support and sponsors for her. Our incoming
donations have dwindled, so what ever you can find in your hearts to give and
help this little gal, would be greatly appreciated. We cannot do what we
do without help from you!
Update on Hope
9/11/06
Hope is doing great, she has
another battle to win, but that is not stopping her. Hope has Cushing, brought
on by the medications she was on back at the first of the year. We new there was
something else going on, but we just couldn't pin point it. After several visits
from the vet and and several test it was confirmed. It may take well over a year
for everything to clear her system, but with the proper treatment she is doing
it. She gets around really good, running from us when she thinks we are going to
put her in her stall. Her hooves are doing great and the farrier visits her
about every ten days to work on the one hoof. She has also deemed herself
Lucky's mother and watches over him like an old mother hen. She also has taken
up with the senior horses here at the rescue and if they are not feeling good
she senses it and lets us know. Hope is quite the character. She stands
and listens to everybody's conversations as if she understands everything we say
and sometimes I really think she does. She also has a best humane buddy who has
had a hand in spoiling her. Ben will stand and brush Hope for long periods of
time and now when she sees his moms car pull up she off and running and yelling
for him to brush her.

Hope has won yet
another battle. We and our vets thought she had an infection of some kind in her
joints and that was why she was having a hard time walking. We here at the
rescue use three different farriers to work on the horses. We could not get one
of the to trim Hope for fear they would hurt her. Last week one of our
horses abscessed in his front hoof. I could not get a hold of any of the
farriers we normally use so I started calling farriers in our area. I finally
was able to get a hold of one that came out to the rescue to work on the horse.
He kept looking a Hope standing there watching him. When he was done with the
horse, he asked what the problem was with Hope and I proceeded to tell him her
story. He looked at me and ask if it was ok if he tried and trimmed her hooves
and I said please try. He stood and worked with her for over an hour. Once done
she started putting weight on her back leg she was having trouble with and the
swelling instantly started going down in her joints. He said she was in such a
position that the stress was causing her joints to swell. By that evening Hope
was running, bucking, spinning in the air, playing chase with our german

Hope has yet another
infection in her joints. We have been struggling with it for about a month. She
is having a real hard time walking and has now got sores on her legs from were
she has been laying again. This little angel can't win for losing. She
hobbles around as if nothing bothers her and still has to stick her nose in
everything we all do her at the rescue. She still roams the farm on her own. We
do not keep her in her stall and she doesn't think she is a horse so we can't
put her out with any of the horses, she is scared to death of them.

This is Hope taking a walk around the
front of the barn. She is growing and continuing to improve. We are still having
our ups and downs with her. She is growing like a weed. I can barely see over
her back now. Hope will always need someone to keep a very close eye on her,
that is why she was made a permanent resident. Her immune system is so run
down that she fights with infections constantly right now. We are in need
of continuing financial support for her to help with all her meds and special
needs.
4/4/06
Hope is still going through
her last treatment and is continuing to improve. She is finally acting like a
little filly. For a little gal, she has one big attitude. She doesn't think she
is a horse and is scared of all the other horses that come in and out of
the barn. Bob has fun playing with her. Saturday we had Sissy our blind TW
horse out for a ride. Hope had a fit. She chased after her through the pasture
she was riding in. We had to catch her and put her in the barn in her
stall until we were done with Sissy. Hope has been made a permanent resident.
With everything she has been through, we cannot take a chance of her going down
again.

Hope has completed one of
the last of the two treatments we can do for her. As of today she is doing
much better. We have weaned her off her anti-inflammatory medicines and her
balance and walking seems to be doing good. We are keeping our fingers
crossed and thanking God for what he has done. This little girl has been in his
hands. He has given us all the strength and wisdom to hang in there with her and
try and believe me that's what we have done is tried. It seemed like everything
we did wasn't enough. Things that shouldn't have worked did. So now when
she see's mom coming with a syringe she runs. She tired of being stuck and I'm
really tired of sticking her. She is feeling a whole lot better. She is actually
running from us, something she couldn't do before. She still has a long road
ahead of her with her recovery. She is starting to gain a little weight.
We are still in need of help with her medical bills and support for her for the
next few months and all the prayers you have. I want to thank everybody that has
been involved up until now with her recovery and medical expenses. Without you
we couldn't have done it. Click on the picture above to see some recent ones.

Hope is still struggling to stay
alive. We are by her side night and day fighting with her. It is taking it's
toll on both her and us, but she so far she is not ready to give up and as long
as she is willing to fight for her life we will be right there by her side. She
is one strong little filly. Just when we think she is tired and has had
enough, she proves us wrong. We sit in her stall with her and feed her
from our hands and hold her head up to drink when she is too tired to stand or
her legs hurt her so bad she can't. She will lay there and listen
and watch me cry for her. And then with all the strength she can get together,
she will stand and come over to me and look at me as if to say, Mom I'm ok, lets
walk. She has won the hearts of everybody that has come to visit the
rescue. We are trying a new drug on her to see if it will help with whatever is
going on. We have fought one infection after another and we are still fighting
something, but we don't know what. She has got everybody stumped. The
medical bills are mounting, but what do you do? Say sorry Hope we can't pay for
anymore. I don't think so. We will do whatever it takes to make her well.
She is in God's hands and we are taking one day at a time. So far our prayers
have been answered and we have been able to treat her, but this is something
that will take months to fix if she makes it. We hoped when she arrived
here, she would make it until Christmas, and she did. Then all we wanted
for the New Year was for Hope to be alive, and she was. Bob and I both have
birthdays coming up this month and the only thing we want is Hope to be healthy
and running around the barn like a little filly should. If you could find it in
your heart to help us, help hope and would like to make a donation in her name,
you can do so at the bottom of the page through pay pal or send a donation to
the rescue with a notation at the bottom, medical care for Hope. All donations
are tax deductible.
HELP!!
2/12/06
Hope has been doing great until
Friday 2/10/06 and she took a turn for the worse. Her temperature skyrocketed on
us and infection set in again. We almost lost her again Friday night. We
have been up the past 48 hours with her day and night. She is in need of some
extensive and long term medical care. This little girl is a fighter. She doesn't
give up. If you could find it in your heart to help with the medical needs for
Hope, please contact the rescue or make a donation in her name. Thanks to
everyone that has been involved in saving this little girl.

Hope is a filly, just barely 1 1/2 year old.
As you can see by her
picture she has been severely neglected. We didn't think she would even make the
long trip back to the rescue, then we thought we were going to lose her twice in
the first 48 hours we had her, it took staying in the stall all night and hand
feeding her - and a lot of prayers to get her through those first 2 days. She is
such a sweetheart, and even though she has been through so much - she still
trusts everyone around her. She
wags her tail like a little puppy dog when you talk to her. In her short
life she has been through so much. The swelling in her legs
made her hurt her so bad she would just stay laying down which then caused sores on
both hips. She was severely dehydrated when we picked her up, too weak to
even hold her head up to eat. We were told her name was Comet, but we renamed her Hope,
because with every hour that went by we hoped and prayed that she would
find the strength to make it. This is going to be a long, hard struggle for
Hope, she has so much to overcome,
but this little girl has a will to live!
