Horses provide numerous, positive benefits:
Our horses are available for adoption to good homes only!
Many of our horses have been the victims
of abuse, ignorance and/or neglect - we hope to break the cycle in the horse's
life. Many times horses return time after time to livestock auctions,
until they are bought by the killers and shipped to slaughter. Please never sell a horse
at a livestock auction! You must still be a member of APC/IHR to adopt but you may wait to pay the membership fee until you pick out the horse you wish to adopt. Applications can be processed while you are at the Southern facility should you have an interest in a horse and have your paperwork together. 06/01/06 - our current adoption donations are $250, $550, and $750. These donations are based on the horse's condition, size, and ability. We occasionally get a horse in that may be used for fund raising or a larger breed horse that will be adopted out at a higher donation due to its size. Adopting? Please Read This First:
It is Indiana Horse Rescue's and Animal Protection Coalition's policy to attempt to place each horse in the home best suited to the individual horse. In addition, horses adopted from APC/IHR cannot be resold, leased, loaned or given away (please read the adoption agreement prior to completing an adoption application). All horses adopted from Animal Protection Coalition are required to have other equines at the facility where the horse is located as they are herd animals. The horse cannot be relocated from the original approved facility without notifying the APC. You will need to complete our application by e-mail or by printing it and mailing it to APC (see additional adoption application information & Adoption Agreement). The adopter will need to be approved on his/her horsemanship skills. This may be done with the horse they wish to adopt. In the event there is not a suitable horse or if the horse is not rideable at that time, we will provide a rideable horse in which to work with. Upon satisfactorily completion of the above APC will require the completion of the adoption agreement with such terms as APC may determine. Payment in full of a non-refundable adoption donation is based upon each individual horse. Upon final adoption of a horse, the adopter is responsible for the transportation arrangements from APC to the adopter's facility. Upon placement of a horse, the adopter is required to submit annual health statement from the adopter's veterinarian and farrier and/or any additional information APC may require. We have found that the wonderful people who are interested in adoption a rescue horse understand that rescue horses are special animals and they may have special needs. Most people have done research on rescue and open their homes to horses in need. Indiana Horse Rescue has been blessed by the overwhelming interest that we have gotten from the community. All IHR asks is that you promise to love, spoil, have fun with, care for, keep safe, feed lots of treats to, give a good home to, protect, cherish and enjoy your rescue horse! **APC reserves the right to
conduct unscheduled follow-ups** Times are tight!! Our feed
expenses are higher than ever with all the new horses coming in! It has
been a huge financial and physical strain, and depend on our dedicated
volunteers. Please consider adopting your next horse, we greatly
appreciate all of those who have adopted and supported our efforts to date! Don't want to adopt? But you do want to help! Make a donation through PayPal!
