05/28/06 Recently we were
asked how we can do this.
It was not about the funding,
but emotionally. How we can deal with the sick, the old, the crippled.
We don't see it that way. We see an animal that needs a little help to
become whole again. Some that need to understand that they will be fed
every day (in fact we feed 3 times daily), not just "sometimes"
Others that need to learn to trust. The majority of the horses that come
to the rescue are coming to ensure they will never be abused, neglected or sent
to slaughter. Every horses that comes to IHR has a permanent file, even if
they come in for no other reason than to be humanely euthanized, we give them
the dignity they deserve. No, it is not easy - many tears are shed.
But we are here for the horses and we try to make the right decision for their
well being. We do it for no other reason than for the love of the horses.
We are here for people who love their horses, but for some reason can no longer
keep them - they can sleep knowing their horse is loved.
Who We Are
Indiana Horse Rescue is the Equine Division of Animal Protection Coalition,
Inc., a federally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the
welfare of abused, neglected and unwanted equines. We are a public charity
that received NO state or county funding, we can only do what we do with
donations from people like you.
What We Do
We provide a safe environment for equines that need a home. They may have
been someone's pet or they may have endured starvation, neglect or even physical
abuse. All horses receive medical attention, we try to rehabilitate each
horse in the hopes that we can locate responsible, caring and loving homes.
Our goal is to give any horse that needs us the opportunity at a second chance
at life, never having to endure the horrors of starvation, neglect, abuse or
slaughter.
Why We Do This
Indiana Horse Rescue was started was for nothing more
than for the love of the horse. Most shelters do not have the facilities
to house or care for horses, we are always available for horses in need.
There is around the clock care at the rescue farm with qualified volunteers
available 24 hours a day. We are striving to eliminate the abuse and
neglect by promoting responsible horse ownership through education and community
awareness.
